We will start our tour of Texas history by learning all about maps and the geography of Texas and its regions. Math: Math is off to a Marvelous start. We are beginning the year with Place Value of Whole Numbers. We will take a look at charting data with stem and leaf plots. and will finish off September with the study of Operations. Practice your multiplication facts daily! We are going to be doing lots of reading this year! The first few weeks of school will be dedicated to setting up procedures for Readers’ Workshop, reviewing how to choose “just right books”, and learning the characteristics of different book genres. Reading Rocks!! Writing: Science: We’re starting off the year learning about science tools and reviewing safety in the lab. We are also learning to use an excellent online resource called “Stemscopes” which will be something you and your child can use together at home to review concepts covered in science class. Read for 20 minutes every night! Writing is off to an exciting start. We will be talking about the Writing Process, generating ideas, creating quick writes, and reflecting on our learning through Reflection Tickets. The students will also be learning about how Writers’ Workshop will work in class. It is going to be an exciting year with books to publish, poems to create, leads to write and so much more! Homework: Monday: Reading/Science Tuesday: Writing & Math Wednesday: None Thursday: Writing & Math Friday: None A Few Reminders: .Please call the Marion office to leave a Maverick Mail note if you need to get a message to your child regarding how he/she is getting home. Students should bring a water bottle with a sports top to school each day. This cuts down on the amount of time they miss instruction for water breaks, and keeps spills to a minimum.
