  2. What is an adjective? • 1. Adjectives modify the NOUN. • Pretty girl. • Fast boy. • Smart students. What are some adjectives we know in Spanish? 2. bueno, malo, rápido, grande, pequeño

  3. 3. In English the adjective usually comes before the noun. • 4. In Spanish the adjective usually comes AFTER the noun it modifies. • Example: The bad boy = The good hair. = El chicomalo. El pelobueno.

  4. ¿Remember? • 5. All nouns in Spanish have a gender and a number. • So . . .

  5. 6. Your adjective must agree in gender and number with the noun it modifies. • Ex: The good girl = • Ex: The bad boys = La chicabuena. Los chicosmalos.

  6. 7. If a noun is feminine (la silla) then the adjective must also be made feminine by changing the o toa. • Ex: The small chair = La sillapequeña.

  7. 8. If a noun is plural(los chicos) then the adjective must be made plural by adding s or ES. • Ex: The small eyes= Los ojospequeños Ex: The small noses = Las naricespequeñas

  8. Las puertasbuenas. • 9. If the noun is plural and feminine, then the adjective MUST be plural and feminine. • Ex: The good doors =

  9. 10. If the adjective ends in an “e” it is called GENDER NEUTRAL and DOES NOT have to change. • Ex: The big girl = • 11. You DO have to make it agree in number • Ex: The big girls = La chicagrande. Las chicasgrandes.

  10. Summary! AFTER • Adjectives go the noun. • Adjectives agree in and • Add: to make an adjfeminine change the O to A • If the adjective ends in E it is , but must agree in GENDER NUMBER. gender neutral number (add –s/es to pluralize).
