  3. What Birds Need From their Habitats Food: 1. Natural: Planted vegetation that is native to the area. 2. Man-made: Place out bird-feeders large enough for local birds to easily get in and out. Water: 1. Natural: Body of water such as pond, river, or ocean. 2. Man-made: Bird bath 1-2 inches deep and fresh clean water. (Bird baths more than 1-2 inches deep could be dangerous for birds because they can drown in them) Space : 1. Natural: Provide native trees and plants with plenty of edible parts, or plenty of bird prey on it. 2. Man-made: large yard with a variety of native species. Cover : 1. Natural: trees and shrubs with quick entrances and exits 2. Man-made: pile of rocks, logs, old Christmas tree on it’s side.

  4. Habitat related ways to help birds Grow a variety of vegetation to provide food and shelter. Provide a bird bath or fountain to provide a water source for drinking and bathing. However, change the water every 2-3 days and, depending on the type of birds in the area, make it 1-2 inches deep. Make or buy a bird feeder big enough for local birds to get in and out easily. Preferably, you should have an entrance on the top as well as some where else.

  5. How Can We Help Nesting Birds? Lower amounts of chemicals in your yard. It is a possible nesting site. Provide native plants so that nesting birds and their young have a quick and healthy food source. Hang a bird feeder. Make it within reach of the nest so that birds can keep an eye on their eggs and/or young. Keep cats and other pets indoors! Pets, especially cats pose a serious threat to birds. Do NOT let animal such as raccoons and skunks onto your lawn.

  6. Non-Habitat Ways To Help Birds 1.) When you are driving with your parents in the car make sure to be aware of birds flying across the road. People could possibly throw food or garbage on streets or roads and the food could attract birds, so always be aware. If you do this you are helping birds all over. 2.) The next thing is do not put trash and food on the ground because it may attract birds. Some chemicals used in human food or trash is poisonous to birds. Eating these chemicals may be fatal to birds.

  7. This is how we can help migratory bird successfully face challenges to their survival Problem Solution Birds can get trapped in feeders. Lawn Chemicals Bird can be too deep and birds can drown Make bird feeders wider and make sure that there is an opening at the top. Contact a pest control agency instead of using chemicals they might have a different way. Don’t make the water more than 1 inch deep, small birds can drown.

  8. Second Chart Problem Solution 4) Keep cats inside because they like to kill birds, but if your cat is an outdoor cat don’t try to attract birds to your house by using feeders, fountain/bird baths, nest boxes, etc.. 5) If your hometown is a breeding ground for birds set up feeders and nest boxes. 6) Cover window with a taut netting or screen at least 2 inches from the window.
