  8. Extra hands and minds • Increased membership has brought about a larger pool of expertise and knowledge • How to manage the increase: • Private sector engagement • Work-streams and sub-working groups • Ensuring collaboration • Limits Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting

  9. New Issues • There are several – but five that can be highlighted are: • Emerging Generic Products • New Technology (with advocacy for same) • Increased Method Choice • Renewed TA in Forecasting/Procurement • Total Market – cross over in public/SM/2nd tier markets and PPPs Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting

  10. Emerging Generic Products • Quality/Pre-qualification/Testing of generics • More manufacturers and products than sales (supply vs. demand) • Many based in LMI countries – pills, injectables and others • Order by generic or chemical/device name not “brand” (The “Hoover” phenomenon) Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting

  11. New Technology • Lots of new or recently refined technology in RH – vaginal ring, new IUCDs, Contraceptive Patch, microbicides, new designs of female condoms and diaphragms • New Technology already faces resistance • Advocacy (to donors, programmes and users) required – Concept of more choice Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting

  12. Contraceptive Choice • Linked to the last area of new technology • New methods providing greater choice • Need for advocacy for choice (even in the public sector?) • Choice within methods often restricted Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting

  13. TA: Forecasting and Procurement • More countries with sector-wide support/ basket funding – need TA in procurement • TA will help all sectors not just RH • Role of procurement agents • Quantification (These not new but need re-engineering) Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting

  14. The Total Market • Market segmentation a priority (toolkit) • PPPs [Public-Private Partnerships] • Private Sector as a legitimate development partner • Social Marketing and 2nd Tier Markets (where does one end and another begin?) Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting

  15. The immediate future • What do you expect from the Coalition? • What can you contribute to the Coalition? • What new directions can be taken? • Is there a case for : • More working groups • More WG meetings • Better collaboration Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting

  16. Some examples • Let us hear now some examples of new issues from a selection of our new members………….. Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition Annual Meeting
