The Karankawas lived in southern Texas along the Gulf of Mexico from Galveston island to the Corpus Christi bay Location
The home of these Native Americans had many details. The huts were made of animal skins held up by willow poles. The poles were 18 feet long pointed at one end and were 10 or 12 feet in diameter. When it was time to pack up and leave they removed the skins and placed them in canoes. SHELTER
From land the Karankawas ate berries, fruit, javelins, deer, bison, rarely bears, and other large animals. From the sea they ate clams, oysters, turtles, alligators, and scallops. FOOD
They used bows, arrows (cedar), lances, clubs, spears, and small axes called tomahawk to hunt. TOOLS AND WEAPONS
The major landforms that were by the Karankawas were the Gulf of Mexico and Galveston island. The gulf of Mexico was great for them because that could canoe and fish. landforms
The climate was usually clear skies and warm days. It was not to cold or to hot to go fishing or hunting. Usually in the winter the Karankawas would move southern to the islands where it was warm. CLIMATE
Deer and bear were very popular because they used the skin for clothing and their homes. Although it was warm most of the time when it got cold the Karankawas would put on the warm clothing. The skins for their homes were good because it was easier to leave. PLANT AND ANIMAL RESOURCES
The Karankawas were the tallest of all the native American tribes. They were very tall and strong and stood above six feet tall. The chief was usually the oldest of the band and the wisest. Marriages were arranged by the parents of the children. They were dog lovers and they spoke a little known language called “Karankawa.” They ate lice, locusts, even human flesh, raw meat and bear fat. They had a passion for spoiled food. INTERESTING FACTS
The Karankawas were like normal Native Americans, they hunted, built shelters, used animal skins for clothing, and had many weapons. They ate many different things like other people, lice, deer, fish and berries. They were very tall compared to other tribes, and lived along Galveston island and the Gulf of Mexico. There most prized possession was the canoe. People say these Native Americans are extinct but some still say there alive. Who knows maybe there are some close by you. conclusion
