  1. Summary of Science and Capacity Needs in the ACJV

  2. ACJV Science and Capacity Needs • Strong Science Foundation for the ACJV through completed and ongoing work • Biological Foundation Plan • Waterfowl Implementation Plan • BCR plans • Consistent habitat mapping • Designing Sustainable Landscapes • Coordinated Bird Monitoring • Flyway scale integrated waterbird monitoring • Secured lands and managed lands databases • Multiple research grants

  3. ACJV Science and Capacity Needs Ongoing Climate Change related Planning and Delivery Designing Sustainable Landscapes Predicting impacts & future habitat capabilities Developing tools to guide management Modeling sea level rise impacts to coastal habitats and species Coast-wide/flyway monitoring programs State vulnerability assessments

  4. Additional ACJV Science Needs • Complete BCR planning • Piedmont BCR, Peninsular Florida,Puerto Rico • Refine population objectives • Make existing information and tools easily available at right scales and formats • Expand Designing Sustainable Landscapes approach to other areas • Additional effectiveness monitoring and monitoring coordination • Consistent secured and managed lands databases throughout JV

  5. Additional Climate Science Needs • Regional Vulnerability Assessments • Support for and link to state planning • Dynamic sea level rise impact models along entire coast • Marshes, beaches and other coastal • Tools for guiding climate smart conservation • Expand climate-related aspects of Designing Sustainable Landscapes • e.g., Southeast Integrated Climate Assessment • Assessment of mitigation potential in forest conservation

  6. ACJV Organizational and Capacity Needs Adequate science and technical staff to support the technical community appropriate to the size and complexity of the ACJV region Permanent GIS and data management support Additional science coordination (without taking away conservation delivery focus) Facilitate science projects Make decision support tools available and relevant to partners; validate models Monitoring design and coordination Research prioritization and funding Seed funding for projects Partner travel funds
