Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning Grantpurpose • Support the development of proficiency-based teaching and learning demonstration sites • Inform practices in other school sites and lead to the development of new proficiency-based teaching and learning school sites in underserved regions of the state

  5. Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning Grant target audience • Grants will fund eligible entities committed to developing sustainable proficiency-based teaching and learning programs in a school district or consortia of school districts with a strong commitment to improving student achievement and to providing demonstration sites for proficiency-based teaching and learning in the state.

  6. Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning Grant target audience • School districts with a readiness to implement a proficiency-based teaching and learning model • Non-profits experienced in working with educators to implement proficiency-based teaching and learning practices • ESDs and post-secondary institutions interested in partnering with school districts to support implementation of proficiency-based teaching and learning practices (cannot act as fiscal agent)

  7. Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning Grant KEY ELEMENTS • Proficiency-based teaching and learning means a practice that is student-centered and based upon several key principles: • Students learn in a personalized environment and advance upon demonstrated mastery of state, industry, or national standards; • Measurable learning objectives are explicit and empower students; • Student assessment is meaningful and a positive learning experience; • Students receive rapid, differentiated support and learning outcomes including applied learning.

Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning Grant KEY ELEMENTS • Each grant will support the development of 1-4 proficiency-based teaching and learning demonstration sites that provide leadership for the rest of the state. • Grant recipient(s) will provide documentation of the impact of proficiency practices on K-12 student achievement, teacher practices, and stakeholders. • More students will experience personalized learning environments that assure proficiency on key learning outcomes.

Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning Grant KEY ELEMENTS • Grant recipient(s) will provide access to proficiency-based teaching and learning resources, training, and content coaches for at least 1,000 educators.* *If two grants are awarded, the total combined number of teachers served should be at least 1,000.

Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning GrantDATES & AMOUNTS • The proposals are due on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 3 PM • The award amount will be up to $602,000 • One or two Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning Grants will be awarded • Applicants are expected to be notified on March 10, 2014 • The final date to expend funds is June 30, 2015

GRANT APPLICATION Reviewers We are building a pool of experienced education administrators, managers, practitioners, researchers and evaluators to serve as peer reviewers for responses to the Proficiency-Based Teaching and Learning Grant RFP. Volunteers with at least 5 years of experience in the areas of assessment, curriculum, educator effectiveness, elementary, equity, diversity and inclusion, secondary, post-secondary, special education, literacy and tutoring, proficiency-based teaching and learning, nonprofit management, grant making, or program evaluation should complete this form. The agency needs statewide representation by February 17; Please send this to your respective networks.
