  3. Who has afterschool funds in LA County? • Types of funds available - ASES: elementary and middle school only - 21st CCLC: elementary and middle school only - 21st CCLC ASSETs: high school only • Grantees are Districts, Charter Schools and Community Based Organizations

  4. Who participates and benefits of being involved? • Students at PI schools, not the lowest hanging fruit • Benefits • opportunity to build skills through deeper learning experience focused on something personally relevant • increased attendance during instructional day • build relationships with instructional day staff and other caring adults • gain 21st century skills: critical thinking

How does the link/connection occur? • Math Connections • Opportunity to expand upon concepts covered during the instructional day • Opportunity to practice the procedural skills associated with the concepts in non traditional ways • Practice applying mathematical ways of thinking to real world issues and challenges
