  1. TheKingdom of God A BriefHistory By Jack R. Taylor

  2. A BriefHistory of theKingdom From the beginning God’s idea was a Kingdom. In Genesis 1 God’s creation was spoken into being and in verse 26 he stated His purpose. “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

  3. A BriefHistory of theKingdom In pursuit of that statement God created man and designated man (male and female) to rule over all creation and gave him power and provision to do so: Genesis 1:28 - “God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.’”

  4. A BriefHistory of theKingdom This was the beginning of God’s kingdom on earth: Man, woman, ruling over creation under the government of God, provided with everything needed under God’s government to effectively rule. God’s response to what he had done: “AND GOD SAW ALL THAT HE HAD MADE, AND IT WAS VERY GOOD!”

  5. A BriefHistory of theKingdom Genesis 3 records the fatal decision of Eve and Adam resulting in THE FALL in which man became sinful, unfit to reign finding a new and lesser home outside the Garden in an alternative kingdom. The rest is history: Man constructing his kingdom without the original plan of God for His guide. But NEVER is there a record of God giving up his original plan for a Kingdom. Though His rule continued, man’s rebellion continued as well.

  6. A BriefHistory of theKingdom The history of man from Genesis 3 to Matthew and the New Testament is a history of failed human kingdoms. Through God’s chosen people, Israel, God promised a King and a Kingdom. This was the hope of Israel and the world. The Kingdom of God was often spoken of in Psalms, Isaiah, (9:6-7), Daniel (2:34,44), Micah (2:13) and Zechariah (9:9).

  7. A BriefHistory of theKingdom John the Baptist came preaching: Matthew 3:2 “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” This was the message of Jesus (Matthew 4:17). His Gospel was the Gospel of the Kingdom. Jesus speaks of the Kingdom over 130 times in the gospels. His parables, his prayers, his strategies were Kingdom-centered.

  8. A BriefHistory of theKingdom The Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7 was a Kingdom message with highlights such as: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven (5:3). “Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (6:10) “But seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness and all these things . . . (6:33)

  9. A BriefHistory of theKingdom Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he spent 40 days speaking about the Kingdom (Acts 1:4). Paul repeatedly spoke of the Kingdom: Acts 14:27, 19:8-10, 28:30, Romans 15:17, I Corinthians 4:20, Colossians 1:13. All of this (and more) is to say that the NT leaves no doubt about the message of the Kingdom and its centrality.

  10. A BriefHistory of theKingdom The triumphant message of the Revelation is: “The Kingdom of this world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and His Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever (11:15). “Now is come the salvation, and the power and the Kingdom of God, and the authority of His Christ (12:10). THE CHURCH OF THE NEW TESTAMENT WAS A KINGDOM CHURCH, A COLONY OF THE HEAVENLY KINGDOM.

  11. TheKingdom in ChurchHistory The church had already begun to lose ground before the end of the New Testament. Among the seven churches of Asia: One had lost its first love. One held to damaging and costly doctrine. One tolerated rebellion (Jezebel). One was “dead”. One was intolerably “lukewarm”.

  12. TheKingdom in ChurchHistory Somewhere early in church history Kingdom mentality was all but stolen from the church. It has been given limited mention in periods of that history and modern theology. The church apart from the Kingdom is unequal to the task of changing our culture and preparing the world for the Coming of Jesus. The church must recover Kingdom mentality.

  13. TheBottom Line “The gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations and then the end will come (Matthew 24:14).” In our generation we are beginning to hear the Kingdom declared and see it demonstrated across the world. CONGRATULATIONS, SAINTS, YOU WERE BORN FOR THIS TIME!

  14. End Time Instructions We are to receive the Kingdom (Hebrews 12:28). We are to seek the Kingdom (Matthew 6:33). We are to declare the Kingdom (Matthew 10:7). We are to demonstrate the Kingdom (Matt. 10:8) YOUR KINGDOM COME, YOUR WILL BE DONE!
