Thesis Advisory Committee • Consists of at least three members (direct supervisor and two or more expert scientists) • Purpose of the TAC: • monitor progress of the student’s work • advise the student regarding the development of the research project • assist the student in aspects of career planning and networking • The thesis advisory committee will determine, together with the direct supervisor, the time point when a student is ready to write up his or her doctoral thesis.

  6. Registration at the LMU • Go to the dean’s office, Großhaderner Str. 2, 82152 Planegg-Martinsried, Room no. B01.030 (1st floor, office hours: Monday until Thursday, 9:00 to 12:00 a.m.) and bring with you the following documents: • - originals and copies of your university qualifying documents • - german or english translation of your documents • - the ‘Bestätigung Doktorvater’ • - Proof of making a Master thesis • - Proofs of the duration of your study

Any suggestions from your side are welcome! Workshops will be announced by email, participants are chosen by first come - first serve. First workshop dates: 8.Dec: Getting started with the doctorate (by Simon Golin) 10./11.Feb: Intercultural communication (by Alexia Petersen) You should participate in at least three soft skills courses during PhD

Method Workshops Topics and dates to be announced, first ideas: Bio-imaging (by Prof. Vothknecht) Microarray printing and scanning (by Prof. Parsch) FACS analyses (by Prof. Boshart) Again: Any suggestions from your side are welcome! You should participate in at least two method courses during PhD

  11. Retreats • Once a year, organized by the PhD students • Progress report talks of PhD students • Talks by invited scientists • Social activities (skiing, hiking,….) You should participate in at least two retreats during PhD Every student should help at least once in the organization of the retreat (incl. invitation of speakers)

Thesis Advisory Committee You should -assemble your TAC in cooperation with your supervisor (till end of year!) -arrange a first meeting within six months after starting your studies Scope of project, impact, feasibility and associated risk should be discussed by the committee in the initial meeting. -Organize the follow up meetings (should take place at least once a year) During PhD, you should have attended four TAC meetings
