  4. How does one use the devices? Both of the devices function in basically the same manner: • E-ink technology for easy reading • Connect via Wi-Fi • 6” screen size (roughly equivalent to paperback book size) • Save bookmarks • Play audio • Neither one is backlit so reading in the dark is impossible

  5. Why would you want one? • Portability • Store thousands of books on one device • Read easily with E-ink technology (no glare or reflections like on a computer screen or iPad)

Cost: device and monthly charge (if appropriate) • Kindle 3rd Generation (with special offers): • $114 • Nook 1st Generation (Wi-Fi only version): • $119 Neither one has a monthly charge but 3G versions are available at more initial expense. The Kindle with special offers comes in Wi-Fi only. The 3G models of the Kindle begin at $164 with special offers and without special offers for $189 and both also have Wi-Fi

  7. My personal opinion In looking at both of these e-readers price was a major determining factor. The Kindle I bought cost $114 because of allowing Amazon to put advertisements on it but I could have gone with the one without these ads and paid $139. I also liked that the Kindle has a hardware keyboard. Some of the other features that led to me choosing the Kindle were: • Longer Battery Life • Pre-existing Amazon account and satisfied customer • Holds more books without needing a MicroSD card • Integration with Audible.com (for audiobooks)

Summary of facts • Both use E-ink technology for easy-on-the-eyes reading. • Both have large storage for books, the Kindle has more as shipped but the Nook has the ability to add in a MicroSD card • Both have long battery life, the Kindle has much better battery life however • They are both priced about the same but the Kindle allowed me to save even more with the special offers edition • Both are about the same size and weight • Both connect via Wi-Fi and optionally 3G versions are available
