  1. Module Outcomes: 1.2 (identify the typical wood joints that are used in frame and panel construction) Open Mortise Important tools: Mortise Gauge Try Square Measuring tape Mortise Chisel and Bit Table saw (dado head) Chisel Shoulder Plane Basic Mortise Pinned Joint The mortise and tenon is one of the oldest joints in furniture making. It is a strong, simple way to make a joint that will last years longer than many other methods of joinery that are less time consuming. Abasic mortise & tenon , orblind mortise joint has the end of the tenon concealed within the mortise. A variation to the basic mortise joint is the pinned mortise and tenon option. This joint incorporates dowelling that is used as a pin that locks the tenon within the mortise. Both the blind mortise and the pinned mortise are important for furniture construction. For Frame and Panel construction the open mortise, or bridal joint is crucial to this module.
