Fleet Management Global Tracking Services use applicable technology • Real Time Tracking of Vehicles for Fleet Management Purposes • Basic Technology Used • GPS Receiver combined with Wireless Internet PC or PDA • GPS feed positional data to PC/PDA • Wireless Internet PC/PDA provides communication link • to ground station • New combined purpose built handheld units are available from • some companies • Some Units are available as retro-fit dashmountable units • Some financial models based on initial purchase and • monthly subscriber fee’s (Cell Phone Model)

  4. Refined System Architecture Need to Add Charger Communication Capability Existing Systems Wireless Internet Service Provider GPS PC or Palm Wireless Internet Automated Server Ground Station

Current Activities • SMUD is contacting charger manufacturers regarding • technology needs • Functionality defined in March • SMUD is contacting Global Tracking System Providers • Additional capabilities being defined • Real Time Charger Functional requirement discussed • Most System Providers offer system customization that could meet • real time charger status system needs • Developing Pilot Project Scope • Charger design/modification scope and cost • Global Tracking System customization • Will also need to link to charger location database • Identify potential User Groups
