  1. Mathematics Review • Today: • Initial Phlexglobal Test

  2. Final Survey On my site, mrkolins.wikispaces.com at the top, under the link to where the pages for this class are, you will see “Phlexglobal Review Form”. Please take a couple of minutes to fill it out. YOU DO NOT have to put your name on it, but please be as honest as you can. I want to get better, and for that I need reviews. Thanks!

  3. There are 8 people in Team A. On one day, they processed the following numbers of pages: The Quality team reviewed 100% of their work, and found a number of errors, as detailed above. The company policy is that anybody whose error rate exceeds 2%, or who has more than 10 errors in a day, must be retrained. Which people must be retrained, according to company policy?

  4. Phlexglobal charges $1.50 per page processed. There are five distinct steps involved in processing a page: • Goods Receiving – takes an average of 2 seconds per page • Prep – takes an average of 30 seconds per page • Scan – takes an average of 10 seconds per page • Quality checks – takes an average of 15 seconds per page • Filing – takes an average of 9 seconds per page • The revenue per page ($1.50) is allocated across these five steps based on time taken. How much revenue per page is allocated to the scanning process? • How many pages per day does a team member have to prep in order to achieve a target daily rate of $300 for that team member (ie: for that team member to earn revenue of $300)? • The preppers, the scanners and the Quality checkers are all working in the same team (the goods receiver and the filers are in different teams). If the team consists of 11 people, how many of those people should be employed as scanners in order to achieve a smooth production process?

  5. Team A consists of experienced members of staff. Team B consists of newly trained recruits. The productivity (per team member per hour) of Team B averages 85% of that of Team A. If we expect an A team member to “prep” 500 pages per day, how many pages would we expect a B team member to “prep” per day?

  6. Anne earns a salary of $25,000. Employer payroll costs (social security, employer 401K / medical insurance contributions), total 21% of her salary. Her salary, plus these employer payroll costs, equals the “total payroll cost”. Onto this total payroll cost, Phlexglobal adds 60% of the total payroll cost to cover overheads. Then Phlexglobal adds a further 30% (to the total cost, including overheads) to cover profits. On average, Anne works 216 days per year. What is the daily rate that Phlexglobal needs to charge Anne out at, in order to recover all of these costs?

  7. Project A involves performing a Quality Control check on 200 boxes of documents. It is estimated that the project will take 20 employees 40 working days to complete. However, when the project starts, there are only 16 employees available. • After 15 working days, how many of the boxes will have been completed, assuming that employees are working to the required level of productivity? • In order for the project to be finished on time (ie: after 40 working days), how many employees need to be added to the 16 original employees, from the start of the 16th working day?

  8. Team W is doing a Quality Control project. The pages are receiving in boxes, each of which contains 300 pages. There are 3 distinct steps in the process: • QC – the budget assumes that it takes 5 hours to QC each box • Remap – the budget assumes that it takes 3 hours to remap each box • Archive – the budget assumes that it takes 0.5 hours to archive each box The QC always has to be done before the Remap, for each box. The Archive step can only be done when all of the boxes have been QC’s and Remapped. The budget for this project assumed that the team would receive 400 boxes. Therefore, the budget was as follows: After the first month of the project, the manager wants to know how the team is tracking against budget. The information is as follows: Number of team members working on the project = 8 Number of days worked per team member =21 (note – Team W works 7.5 hours per day) Number of boxes which have been QC’d, but not remapped = 93 Number of boxes which have been QC’d and remapped = 76 • How many hours is the Team over or under budget so far?

  9. There are 12 people in Team X. • In the month of July, there were 20 working days. Each person in Team X works 7 hours per day. • 1 person took 15 holiday days in July, 1 person was off sick for 5 days and 1 person was seconded to another department for 10 working days. • During July, the team processed 23,000 paper documents, and 17,000 electronic pages. • It has been calculated that an electronic page takes half the time of a paper page to process. • On average, there are 4.6 pages in a document. • In the month of August, there are 22 working days. • 25 holiday days have been booked by Team X. We are not forecasting any sickness and nobody is on secondment. • There are no electronic pages in August – only paper. • Assuming the same level of productivity is achieved, how many paper pages would we expect Team X to process in August?

  10. Phlexglobal Math Quiz

  11. There are 211 documents in a file – 40 of these are 1572’s, 74 of these are Investigator CV’s, 45 of these are Ethics approvals and 52 are CRFs.  An auditor wants to examine a sample of 75 of the documents in the file, but the 75 documents have to be spread across each document type in the same proportion as the overall file contents.  Therefore, how many Investigator CV’s does the auditor examine?

  12. A project consists of scanning the contents of 226 boxes.  Eight scanners (A – H) are used for this work.  Each scanner completed the following number of boxes: • If the project is budgeted $200,000, how much does scanner D make, proportionally?

  13. Write an equation, and solve it for the following problem; Michael and Jane are ordering packages of material. If Jane orders 6 more than half as many as Michael orders, how many do each order if a total of 33 packages have been ordered?

  14. Write an equation, and solve it for the following problem; Sarah and Isiah are each prepping files of documents.  If the total number of files prepped is 95, and if Sarah has prepped 35 more than a third of what Isiah has prepped, how many files has each person prepped?

  15. We need to QC an average (mean) of 40 boxes per day over a two week period (10 working days).  In the first nine days, we QC’d the following number of boxes: 35, 42, 50, 19, 21, 39, 46, 47 and 49.  How many boxes do we need to QC on the 10th working day in order to achieve the average of 40 boxes per day.

  16. If we know that our profit from the equation;Profit=(x-8)*400+900, with x being the number of items we have sold, how many items do we need to sell if we want a profit of $16900?

  17. Phlexglobal charges $1.50 per page processed. There are 5 steps involved in processing a page: Goods Receiving – takes an average of 5 seconds per page Prepping – takes an average of 40 seconds per page Scanning – takes an average of 20 seconds per page Quality Checks – takes an average of 15 seconds per page Filing – takes an average of 10 seconds per page • The revenue per page is allocated across these 5 steps based on time taken. • How much of the revenue should be allocated to the prepping process? • How many pages should be scanned by a team member in order for that team member to achieve a target daily rate of $250

  18. A new project is estimated to take 30 people 20 full days to finish. Unfortunately when the project starts only 25 people were available. How many days should it take the 25 people to finish the same project?

  19. If a large client is given a discount of 15% off their order, and the cost AFTER discount comes to $12750, what was the original cost of the order, if the client did not have the discount?

  20. If each binder has an average of 387 pages, and each box has an average of 14 binder, and each carton has 6 boxes, and each pallet has an average of 16 cartons on it, how many pages should one expect to have in 7 pallets?
