  2. Why We’re Here A start page solution that can help UTEP Athletics: • Increase revenue from ticket sales • Increase revenue from affiliate programs, sponsors, ads and donations • Improve your search authority • All of which leads to more ticket and affiliate sales…it’s a beautiful thing

  3. Social media is awesome. Shares, likes and follows are essential to driving engagement and building an audience. But there’s a missing linksocial networks, your fans and your website. FACT: Your website is the most valuable commodity for connecting with your fans

  4. Is Facebook blowing it? Facebook and other social properties are demanding that you pay to reach your audience & fans.

  5. It’s your community As a college athletics brand, you shouldn’t be dictated to about: • How to connect with your fans. • When you can talk to them. • What actions the fans can take on your behalf. • How much money is required to reach them – for every single message.

  6. Real-time connection drives engagement For students, it’s all about being able to make connections in real time with real people — social media as customer service rather than marketing. As Inigral’s report notes, “There is a difference between sharing blogs, photos, and other content about student life on social networks versus creating an online social community for students to connect with one another. According to our survey, students are less interested in hearing ‘updates from the institution’ compared to having an organized way of connecting with ‘people at the institution.’” “Academia and Facebook are finally getting along and applicants are taking notice,” Digital Trends, May 7, 2013

  8. UTEP Social Start Page Solving the web’s missing link to proactively engage fans • Engagement • Social at the core, the SSP is made to increase social engagement, sharing & boost your website’s authority. • Ubiquity • Every single time someone accesses the internet (avg. of 10X per session), a browser’s “home” tab or “start page” is accessed. • Latest News • The page will give fans instant access to tickets, the latest athletic & collegiate news, social updates and community conversations. • search • rank • affiliate revenue • ticket sales

  9. Why This Matters • The social start page will live at your website and be memorable, e.g. start.utepathetics.com. • Real-time ticket sales promotion & latest news in a social visual format, focused on social sharing and community-building • Builds community: students and fans can set this as their browser’s “start page • The average person opens ~10 browser tabs with each internet session. For members that set it as their start page, your home page will load with each tab. That's 10 opportunities for you to connect with members for each browser session. • Let’s say you have 30,000 fans. We’d aim to get 10% of them to use the SSP daily X 10 tabs/day X 30 days = 900,000 page views/month • Plus – fans can configure the page with: their fave search engine(s), links to their most visited websites (from a top 100 list) and add their own links. • Everything your fans want in one page, while you sell more tickets, increase your affiliate revenue, increase traffic & site authority!

  10. How affiliate programs work • Affiliate programs are one of the best ways to make money online • The SSP can list the top 50 affiliate retailers and let your fans choose which ones they want on their start page • Each retailer link is embedded with an affiliate code for UTEP. • Every time a fan clicks on a link and buys something, the commission is 2 – 20%. • For instance: most purchases on Amazon are 5-8%

  11. Revenue projections per 900,000 monthly page views - Plus increased ticket sales & donations - = $286,800/year +

  12. Get your fans connected Promote the UTEP SSP on your site, newsletters, etc. • Links to all of their favorite sites (customized by them upon sign up) • Staff and player submitted content • Stay in-the-know about upcoming events and promotions • Community-building conversations & social sharing • Mobile-friendly

  13. Project Goals • Design a community-focused social start page with a social visual feel • More actively engage your students and fans • Easily allow staff to contribute content to the site • Incentivize fans to socially share and engage • Increase revenue from ticket sales, advertising, sponsorship and donations • Establish metrics for website traffic, social engagement and member involvement • Be mobile-friendly • Recommend campaigns that can reach a wider audience • Provide a conversation platform for deeper feedback and engagement • Give insight into what’s happening as your content is shared
