  2. Creating PossibilitiesCareer Prep Academy • To provide opportunities for June non-graduates to: • Complete an industry certification, student credential or state licensure • Earn remaining standard and/or verified credits needed for graduation • Begin CPA in July • Graduation in December

Creating PossibilitiesTargeted Students • Did not earn a high school diploma • Need one or more standard and/or verified credits to graduate • Will be able to meet the requirements for a high school diploma and industry certification/state licensure by December • Need an industry certification or state licensure to be prepared to enter the workforce

  5. CPA DesignAn Education Plan • An Education Plan is developed for each student enrolled in the CPA that includes the following: • Identification of standard credits needed for graduation • Identification of verified credits needed for graduation • Administration of Kuder Career Assessments

CPA DesignAn Education Plan • Selection of industry certifications or state licensure based on the Kuder Assessments • Identification of students individual needs and measures to meet each need Identification of students’ individual needs and measures necessary to meet each need • Collaboration between career coach and each student • Completion of Contract Agreement by student, parent/guardian, and CPA regional coordinator identifying the responsibilities of each party

Career Prep Academy Timeline/Instruction Delivery Model • CPA schedule is based on individual needs of each student • Instruction is competency based rather than seat time • Instruction may be morning, afternoon, or evening; half day or full day, secondary, postsecondary or proprietary classes and/or • Virtual on-line training

  8. CPA IncentivesStudent Incentives • Tuition for all core subjects and industry certification courses • Industry certification or state licensure examination fees • Retake examination fee, if needed (1 retake) • Costs of all books and related fees • Transportation

  9. Bonus Incentives • Gas cards or gift certificates awarded: • based on perfect attendance • and maintaining a C average in all subjects

  10. CPA Incentives • Completion Incentives: • High School Diploma • Industry Certification or State Licensure • Graduation Dinner and Ceremony

  11. CPA Seminars • Seminar topics: • Orientation/Information Meeting • Workforce Seminar • Postsecondary Readiness • Getting and Keeping a Job • Planning for the Future • Application for Patrick Henry Community College

  15. Career Prep Academy WHY? • Increase the number of students obtaining a high school diploma • Increase the number of students earning a industry certification, student credential, and/or state licensure • Better prepared students for entering the global world of work • Economic Development

  16. 8 Plus • Identify eighth grade students who have not passed the math and/or English SOL Assessment • Identified students will be required to attend a six-week summer academy • Students who do not successfully complete the Summer Academy will be assigned the 8 Plus Program located at the Center for Community Learning
