  3. In a global village of 100 • 61 Asians • 12 Europeans • 8 North Americans • 5 South Americans and Carribbeans • 13 Africans • How many people live in Oceania?

  4. Percentage • means out of 100 so the global village represents the world in percentages. • There are 50 men and 50 women.

  5. Percentages • 47 live in an urban area • How many live in a non-urban area? • If 12 are disabled what percentage of the world’s population is not disabled?

  6. The world’s religions • 33 are Christians • 21 are Muslims • 6 are Buddhists • 1 is Sikh • 1 is Jewish • 11 are other religions • 11 are non-religious • 3 are atheists • How many are Hindus?

  7. Percentages • Finding percentages – discuss in pairs the following questions: • How do you find 10% of an amount? • How do you find 5% of an amount? • How do you find 1% of an amount? • How do you find 75% of an amount?
