  1. Kingswood April 2013

  2. Travel • We will be departing on Monday the 29th April 2013 at approximately 12:30pm and arrive at Kingswood at approximately 2:45pm. • There will be a comfort stop on both the outbound and return journey. • We leave Kingswood on Wednesday 1st May at 1:00pm and expect to be back in Irchester at 3:15pm.

  3. Accommodation • There are 4 dormitories altogether, sleeping up to 15 children. (bunk beds) • Boys – Yellow floor ‘Kangaroo & Poodle rooms!! • Girls – Red floor ‘Rabbit & Duck’ rooms. • There will only be Irchester children in the dormitories, however, there will be other children from different schools on the same floor in separate rooms. • Children will have access to showers – which they will be encouraged to use! • Children are expected to stay in their dormitories at night and keep noise to a minimum so not to disturb others. • Members of staff will be sleeping on the same floors as the children.

  4. Meal Times We have an allocated time for meal times which are: • Breakfast – 7:30 am • Lunch – 12:05pm • Dinner – 5:05pm There is a different menu each day where children have a selection to choose from.

  5. Activities - Climbing • Purpose-built indoor and outdoor climbing walls provide the ideal opportunity to develop co-ordination, stamina and determination, whilst learning basic climbing skills and techniques. Once basic skills have been mastered, Instructors add in twists to challenge children further like blindfolded climbs with verbal guidance from peers or racing climbs against their friends. Everyone is provided with a safety harness and helmet with a pre-activity safety briefing by qualified Instructors. Students are supported by a secure belay rope so once they have reached their personal boundary, children can be lowered to the ground whenever they want if required.

  6. Archery • Trained Instructors concentrate on developing pupils’ technique. Students use bows and arrows to match their individual strength, size and age. As with all activities, a thorough safety briefing takes place beforehand and all safety equipment such as arm braces are supplied.

  7. Team Challenge • A purpose-built obstacle course that will challenge all age groups! Complete with bouldering walls, monkey bar climb, cargo nets, balance beams and lots more, the elements get more challenging as the activity progresses ensuring that the teams continually push themselves & work together

  8. Zipwire • Children will experience the perception of taking risks, but in a controlled environment with helmets, harnesses and fully qualified Instructors. An exhilarating ride for the participant, this activity also fosters group spirit and bonding, as pupils cheer each other to overcome their nerves and go whizzing down the wire.

  9. Go Karts • Concentrating on safe, forward momentum, steering precision and road sense rather than speed, Karting is a popular favourite with young people of all ages. Pupils love the opportunity to be in the driving seat of our purpose-built motorised vehicles and take a spin on our tarmac tracks, coordinating the skills of steering, acceleration and braking.

  10. Nightline • Nightline is a sensory depravation exercise in which pupils are blindfolded throughout the activity. Pupils navigate their way through a series of obstacles and mazes as a group, relying heavily on the trust and support of each other, and communicate with each other verbally to negotiate a series of obstacles as they tackle each of the different challenges.

  11. Caving • A chance to embark on an exciting underground exploration of our man-made caving system in a completely safe environment. Guided by our Instructors, they tell stories of bomb shelters and prehistoric people, lit by pupils’ helmet headlamps. This activity places emphasis on communication skills and requires pupils to work with others in a buddy system in order to succeed.

  12. Laser Zone • With disco lights flashing through the smoky darkness, children embark into the Laser Zone!

  13. Campfire • Campfire songs, toasted marshmallows, party games and the chance to chill out and chat.

  14. Club Kingswood • Sing and dance to the latest tunes!!

  15. Shop • There is a shop that sells a few souvenirs – pens (£1.50), pencils(70p), rubbers(£1.00), keyrings (£3.00) etc. Children may bring some money if they wish to purchase some goods. Children will not need any more than £5.

  16. Timetable - Day 1

  17. Timetable - Day 2

  18. Timetable - Day 3

  19. Clothing • Long sleeved tops and trousers are required to be worn for most of the activities such as climbing , zipwire, caving and go karting. • Children will get muddy on the caving and nightline activities, especially if it has been raining, so a change of clothing maybe needed. • Sensible, closed toed footwear is needed for all activities. • All of the activities are outside regardless of weather, so warm, waterproof clothing is essential. • Please make sure ALL clothing/shoes are labelled with your child’s name. (See kit list letter for more details)
