  2. Intrinsic motivation…the doing of an activity for its inherent satisfaction Just for the fun of it…

  3. Intrinsic motivators include… fascination with a subject, a sense of relevance to life & the world, a sense of accomplishment in mastering it, and a sense of a calling to it.

  4. Extrinsic motivation is when a person is motivated by outside factors.

  5. Extrinsicmotivators include… parental expectations, expectations of other trusted role models, good grades… For young children…

  6. Intrinsic motivation can be long lasting and self-sustaining however … slow to affect behaviour and time consuming

  7. Extrinsic motivators more readily produce behaviour changes and typically involve relatively little effort or preparation.

  8. However … Extrinsicmotivators can often distract students from learning the subject at hand.

  9. Motivationis the engine that drives learning.
