  2. What is Web 2.0? The second generation of the World Wide Web, especially the movement away from static webpages to dynamic and shareable content and social networking. The focus is on creating and sharing user-generated content (UGC). A Web 2.0 site gives its users the free choice to interact or collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumers) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where users (consumer) are limited to the passive viewing of content that was created for them. Examples of Web 2.0 include social-networking sites, blogs, wikis, video-sharing sites, hosted services, and web applications. The term Web 2.0 is commonly associated with web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, user centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. Bookmarks are known as favorites or Internet shortcuts, where you can save your most used sites or sites that you would like to use again in your web browser. Social bookmarking allows users who have similar interests to pool their web resources in a way where multiple users can access the links or bookmarks to specific information from any location. 11. Some Useful Web 2.0 Tools Social Bookmarking for Educators Social bookmarking is advantageous for teachers because it decreases the time it takes to find quality resources and information to be used in lessons. The bookmarks provide a portal to sites that have been reviewed by peers, are present in one location, and do not require time to search for specific needs.
