Do you want to visit London? • London has three main airports: Heathrow, Gathwick and Stansted. I recommend to fly because of good price. • Buy good map.
LONDON • London is one of the most interesting cities in Europe. Many tourists from all over the world come to London, which is situated on the river Thames about 40 miles from the sea. London is famous for it is numerous historic building, monuments, museums, galleries, parks, theatres, cinemas and shops…
WESTMINSTER ABBEY • Most tourists start visiting London from Westminster Abbey where all British sovereigns have been crowned. This magnificent Gothic Church is also famous for its numerous tombs and monuments to distinguished figures in Britain’s past
THE PALACE OF WESTMINSTER • Not far away from Westminster Abbey there is a massive complex of the Houses of Parliament built in the Gothic style in the 19th century. Now the public can visit both the House of Commons and the House of Lords where parliamentary debates are held.
BIG BEN • This bell was installed in 1859. Big Ben took it is name from Sir Benjamin Hall who was responsible for it is constructing. Big Ben is not only huge ( weighs 14 tons) but is also very precise. Twice a day some officials from the Greenwich Observatory make sure that the clock is right. It is situated next to Westminister Palace.
BIG BEN • In 1949 the bell was 41 minutes delayed due to big group of birds sitting on it. • In 1962 the bell showed New Year with delay of 10 minutes because of the snow.
TOWER BRIDGE • There are several bridges on Thames River in London. One of it is famous – Tower Bridge.
TOWER OF LONDON • After 1066 William I constructed one of the most famous landmarks of the city-the Tower of London. It was a prison, treasury, zoo and arsenal. It was also the Royal Residence until XVII century.
BUCKINGHAM PALACE • This famous place, first built in 1703, is in the very centre of London. It is the place where the kings and politicians go to meet the Queen. There is 600 rooms, 300 clocks and about 700 poeple work in the Palace. Buckingham Palace is like a small town, we can find there police station, two sports clubs, disco, cinema and swimming pool.
DOWNING STREET • There are the adresses in London that the whole world knows. One is 10 Downing street, where the Prime Minister lives. We can see on the picture Kaczyński – Blair meeting.
TRAFALGAR SQUARE • Trafalgar Square is famous for a large statue of Admiral Lord Nelson, fountains, pigeons and New Year revelries. To the north of the Square stands the National Gallery housing one of the greatest collections of paintings of the world.
BRITISH MUSEUM • The British Museum is the largest museum of history in whole Europe. Musuem was established in 1759 by Sir Hans Sloan. It has impressive ancient, medieval and oriental collections.
NATIONAL GALLERY • Gallery displaying Western European painting from about 1250-1900. Includes work by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Turner, Renoir, Cezanne and Van Gogh. Also special exhibitions, lectures, video and audio-visual programmes, guided tours and holiday events for children and adults.
TATE GALLERY • Tate Britain is the original Tate Gallery and holds the largest collection of British art in the world. The gallery shows work from the last five centuries, including contemporary British art, in a series of free changing displays.
KEW GARDENS • Visitors to London may relax in wonderful London parks: Richmond and Kew Gardens full of exotic plants and trees.
LONDON EYE • Paris has the Eiffel Tower, New York the Empire State, and now London has the London Eye. The world's largest observation wheel offers a spectacular way to take in over 55 of London's most famous landmarks in just 30 minutes!
PICADILLY CIRCUS • The centre of London has many different areas. An interesting place to see is colourful Chinatown, a Chinese district full of oriental shops and restaurants. Shaftesbury Avenue separates Chinatown from Soho- the centre of London entertainment with numerous cinemas, theatres, discotheques, night clubs, pubs, restaurants and gambling clubs. To the south of Soho there is Picadilly Circus with the colourful neon signs, the statue of Eros and the Trocadero- a new development of shops, restaurants and entertainment.
MADAME TUSSAUD • Madame Tussaud’s museum where you can see wax figures of politicians, film stars and queens and other famous people.
BIG FOOTBALL IN BIG CITY… • On the left side you can see chelsea stadium - stamford bridge, on the right side you can see arsenal london playground - fly emirates stadium.
OXFORD STREET - HARRODS Those who like doing shopping should visit Oxford Street where are located a lot of shops including famous Harrods. You can buy there everything you want.
PERNAMENT TRAFFICS • Typical mark of london are red buses and black taxis which are the main part of city traffic.
Without title • - In 1952 the tower bridge started to move up when the bus was riding through it. Luckilly nothing happened to anyone. • The oldest underground’s system in the world is in London. • One of 10 child in England doesn’t know the name of capital city in Great Britain.
