  3. Weekend in the Big City Country Mouse arrived in Philadelphia after an exhausting 3 hour trip from his home in the country. He had gotten lost in the maze of one way city streets and was stuck in traffic. He was almost run over by several cars and a bus along the way. Country Mouse finally arrived at City Mouse’s high rise apartment building to find that the elevator was broken. So, he had to take the stairs up to the 34th floor. Country Mouse didn’t sleep very well his first night in the city because of all the noise outside his window. On Saturday, the two mice walked 15 blocks to the Franklin Institute, went to the Omniverse Theater, and had lunch on the 115th floor of the Liberty Skyscraper. After an afternoon of shopping, they took the subway to Veteran’s Stadium to see the Phillies play the Yankees. Finally, at 11:00 PM, they headed back to City Mouse’s apartment.

  4. Writing Checklist • Make sure you have included: • A good description of the mouse’s weekend. • What the mouse would have liked and why. • What the mouse would have disliked and why. • How does the mouse feel about his friend’s community?

  7. Dear City Mouse, Since you have never been to the wide open country, I’d like you to come to my place in Lancaster for the weekend. There will be so many fun things to do. I can’t wait to see you! Love, Country Mouse

  8. Weekend in the Country City Mouse arrived in the country after a long, boring three hour drive. After being stuck behind a tractor and Amish buggy for several miles, he made a few wrong turns due to none of the streets had signs. He finally arrived at Country Mouse’s farm to find a cow and several chickens blocking the driveway. City Mouse settled in for the night, but could not sleep due to the quiet. All he could hear were the chirping crickets. On Saturday, the crow of the rooster woke City Mouse up at 6:00AM. Country Mouse asked him to help with the morning chores of milking the cows and collecting eggs from the chicken coop. Using the fresh eggs and milk, Country Mouse cooked up a hearty country breakfast. After breakfast, the two friends went fishing down by the lake. They cleaned the fish and cooked them for lunch. After lunch, they sat on the back porch and drank lemonade. It was time for afternoon chores. The cows needed milking again and horse stalls needed to be cleaned. After chores, the mice had a BBQ dinner and built a fire to roast marshmallows. Around 8:30, they both headed to bed. For morning chores come very early out on the farm.
