  2. READ Carefully! • Read the word problem • Look for key words • Underline important information • Decide which operation to do (multiply, add, subtract, divide) • Solve!

  3. Division Word Problems • Key words: equal groups, divide evenly, each • Bigger number goes inside (dividend), smaller number goes outside (divisor), answer to the problem is on top (quotient).

  4. Let’s practice • Carol wants to split a collection of apples into groups of 8. Carol has 32 apples. How many groups will be created? • Look for key words. how many groups Solve 32 divided by 8=4 4 groups will be created

  5. You try! • There are 20 students in the class and 120 crayons. If the crayons are divided equally among the students, how many does each student get? • Key words: divided equally • To solve: 120 divided by 20=60 • Answer: 60 crayons

  6. Practice makes perfect! • George wants to split a collection of pencils into groups of 9. George has 27 pencils. How many groups will be created? • Key words: “into groups” • To solve: 27 divided by 9=4 • Answer: 4 groups
