Disciplines and Professions • Disciplines: the function of a discipline is to develop a coherent body of knowledge that describes, explains, and predicts key phenomena from the domain of interest (subject matter) • Professions: the application of knowledge acquired from disciplines. • Disciplines seek to understand subject matter and professions seek to implement or apply this knowledge.
