  3. Creating a supportive world for those with dementia

  4. Setting the context Spending on health increases with age 5th July 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the National Health Service. Over that period medicine has been revolutionised and lives transformed. The Health Service’s founding principles – of care for all, on the basis of need, not ability to pay. This is the spending we allocate most efficiently effectively. Not less £££ just better outcomes

  5. On Any Level TAILs Offer Huge Value For assisted living communities, their residents and their families, preventing falls is a daunting and difficult challenge. 1/2 2.2M 40% Half of assisted living residents fall every year. Fewer than half of them tell their healthcare provider. Falls cause 2.2 million A&E visits and are the leading cause of injury & death for older people. Up to 40% of assisted living falls happen at night – when people are alone which causes preventable suffering, potential long term injury/death & cost… That’s the bad news… The good news is the problem is preventable!

  6. The Time is Right for an IPhone Moment • The Government’s Manifesto describes the ‘ageing population’ as one of the five giant challenges facing our society. • A YouGov poll suggested that 2million+ individuals have given up work to care for a loved one • 3million people have reduced their working hours - reduced tax revenue £5.3billion. • The NHS spends £1.3billion on excess bed days every year due to delayed discharge. • Almost 75% of carers using technology said it gave them piece of mind and 10% said it had helped them either get or stay in work. • There are currently 6.5million people in the UK providing unpaid care to a sick or older loved one which is worth £132 billion a year.

  7. The various faces of Assisted Living Technologies Web Apps TeleHealth Telecare TAILS

  8. Assisted Living Technologies What are the Alternatives • Web-Apps - 3 party applications downloaded to a smart phone. It records highly focused data, e.g. location, emergency calls, etc. Web-apps work between the subject and their stakeholders, family, friends and health care team. • Telecare –configured around sensors within the home that are programmed to record & report on activities and environmental triggers that happen. Telecare systems are non-interventional • Telemedicine/Telehealth– the monitoring and transmission of health statistics, e.g. blood pressure, weight, and medication compliance to a response centre or clinician where it will be compared to ‘expected’ levels and action prompted as appropriate. • Technology Assisted Independent Living (TAILS) – Like Telecare the system is configured around sensors within the home however using Artificial Intelligence and machine learning imbedded in rules the systems will initiate actions to keep people safe and healthy within their home and surrounding area
