  2. Background • London is a leading global city • Has strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, media, and tourism • More than 300 languages spoken in the boundaries of the city • City has been divided into 32 boroughs since 1965 • Architecture is too diverse to have a distinct categorization due to the length of its existence • West Side: London's main entertainment and tourism district with a many shopping areas • East Side: Located near the original Port of London and is known for its high immigrant population and being one of the poorest areas in London ACIS 1504

  3. Demographics Graphs results depict the populationof 7,753,600 This graph depicts the cultural diversity of London Debunks the popular misconception that London is 100% white Christianity is the most common religion(58%) but again is not the only religion practiced I enjoy the diversity of a city because it integrates many cultural aspects some cities do not hold and improves the atmosphere of the city ACIS 1504

  4. Local Government • The government in England is a complex system that involves intricate legislation steps as most countries do nowadays • The graphic below shows the structure of the basic local government in England today ACIS 1504

  5. Weather • London has one of the mildest climates in the UK. • However, weather can be unpredictableand switch on a dime. • The number of rainy days is around 11 and 15 rainy days a month which suits me well because I love the rain. • The rainy, oceanic climate in London makes me comfortable in the environment I live in. 6. EDF Energy London Eye • It’s the tallest cantilevered observation wheel in the world • Views high above the London skyline at 135 meters • The London eye has 32 capsules, representing the 32 boroughs of Londonthat have a 360 degree view of their beautiful surrounding • “Innovative, 360 degree non-stop-24-hour filming has granted EDF Energy London Eye guests the first ever multi-dimensional views of the spectacular sights”("Edf energy london," ) • http://www.visitlondon.com/attractions/detail/282783-edf-energy-london-eye ACIS 1504

  7. Natural History Museum • Hundreds of exciting, interactive exhibits in one of London’s most beautiful landmark buildings • Contains 70 million items within five main collections: Botany, Entomology, Mineralogy, Paleontology and Zoology. • Highlights include the Dinosaurs gallery and the amazing, realistic modeling of mammals and animals • The importance of this museum is inconceivable as it comprises animals from the beginning of earth’s existence to current life forms • One of my favorite places to visit because I love nature and the outdoors as an Eagle Scout ACIS 1504

  8. Tower of London • Was constructed in 1078 by William the Conqueror • The history and background of the grim reputation as a place of torture and death is interesting to see and witness for yourself • However, there is also an unknown beauty of the Tower • It served as a royal palace and is an architectural marvel to this day • Was a key armory and a powerful fortress • There is a presence of the wild and wondrous animals that have inhabited the Tower that actually make it the first London Zoo. • This type of history fascinates me because of the profound impact it held and still holds in London • I find it particularly interesting due to the common misconception that it was solely a torture chamber when it had many other roles that people do not know about ACIS 1504

  9. London Soccer • London boasts 13 professional football teams, which is more than any other city in the world. • Soccer is one of the most important culture aspects in Europe • I have played soccer since I was three years old and have always loved playing and watching the sport • The English Premier League is one of the most elite soccer divisions there is in the world and is exhilarating to watch • Popular clubs include Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, and Tottengham • Stadiums are known for loud chanting and die hard loyalty to their club ACIS 1504

  10. My Soccer After I scored against cross-town rival in Varsity soccer this year Have always loved soccer and have passion for English Soccer I am furthest to the right being hugged (#19) ACIS 1504

  11. Science Museum of London • The Science Museum is the most visited science and technology museum in Europe. • The Science Museum now holds a collection of over 300,000 items such as the Apollo 10 command capsule and Stephenson’s Rocket. • Has multitude of galleries that contain more than 50 interactive, user-friendly exhibits for people of all ages to engage in and actively learn about science • My favorite thing about the museum is the Exploring Space gallery because I have always had keen love and passion for astronomy and astrology since I was little ACIS 1504

  12. Conclusion • London is a complex, world renowned metropolis that is one of the most popular cities for tourists to visit at any time of the year • The vast history and influence from the Elizabethan Period has a profound handhold in city architecture that makes the city more than a simple tourist attraction • The weather, sports, government, ethnic diversity, and local attractions all suit my personality perfectly because they mix learning and personal interests • I hope to study abroad there soon with Virginia Tech to experience London for an extended period of time and really delve into the London culture ACIS 1504

  13. Project Reflection • This project demonstratedthe need to improve my comfort with PowerPoint in the future in many aspects • Features that I used for the first time: • Audio/sound incorporation • Adding a footer to the slides • Using SmartArt • Putting a digital image of myself in a slide • Incorporating three different slide layouts in the project. • This project will definitely benefit my further progression and growth will not only PowerPoint but with other business oriented programs I will use heavily in the future.
