  3. 2. MAIN APPLICATIONS • Electric bill cost management. • Green building certification. • Machine operation scheduling in factory. • Monitoring of substations network.

  4. 3. LCD TOUCH SCREEN Stylitis-Power has an LCD touch screen graphic display. The main operations (setup, download, etc) are performed via Opton, its free operating software. However, the LCD screen you can: • View instantaneous frequency, voltage, current, power, and power factor for each phase. • View instantaneous bar graphs. • View time and recording status. • View memory used/left with time indication. • Check GSM Modem status. • Activate/deactivate the internal modem (Deactivate/activate the serial port correspondingly). • View help pages.

  5. 4. COMMUNICATION METHODS (BRIEFLY) Communicate with the datalogger via Opton, its operating software, in various ways: • Locally • Via a GSM data call. • Via Ethernet (local network or the internet). • Via GPRS, using a cheap Dynamic IP SIM Card (via DiamesonServer). • Via Satellite.

  6. 5. COMMUNICATION METHODS (PART 1) • Locally • Activate Stylitis-Power’sRS-232 port. • Connect it to your computer COM port, via a NULL MODEM serial cable. RS-232

  7. 6. COMMUNICATION METHODS (PART 2) 2. Via a GSM data call • Activate Stylitis-Power’s built-in internal modem. • Connect a GSM modem to a computer COM port. • Call the logger’s modem, provided that both modems’ SIM cards support GSM data calls. GSM Network GSM modem

  8. 7. COMMUNICATION METHODS (PART 3) • Via Ethernet (local network or the internet) • Use Stylitis-Power’s built-in internal Ethernet module (which is always active). • An ADSL connection (a static IP) for the logger is required only to connect the logger to the internet. ADSL Router LAN/ internet

  9. 8. COMMUNICATION METHODS (PART 4) • Via GPRS, using a cheap Dynamic IP SIM Card (via Diameson Server) • Activate Stylitis-Power’s built-in internal modem. • Neither ADSL (static IP) connection is required for the logger nor expensive static IP SIM cards. • Low operation cost: The datalogger is permanently online, but only data exchange is charged. • Connection of dataloggers and computers to Diameson Gateway, Symmetron’s server software. • Symmetron’sDiameson is available for connections, but you can use your own Diameson, to manage your own dataloggers. GPRS Network Diameson Gateway Internet

  10. 9. COMMUNICATION METHODS (PART 5) 5. Via Satellite • Two satelliteiridium modems are required, one connected to the computer and one to the datalogger’s serial port (via a straight cable). • Communication is achieved via satellite. Iridium modem Iridium modem

  11. 10. LOGGER SETUP (PART 1) • Connect to the datalogger, via Opton, via one of the previous methods and modify its setup. • In the logger setup, besides the channel configuration, you can also change other parameters: • The recording interval (selectable from 0.5 sec to 1 hour). • The logger’s sitename. • If you wish to connect via GPRS, define the APN, user name and password of the SIM card’s provider and an IP address and port. VOLTAGE CHANNEL • The channel indicated as ‘VOLT’ is the voltage channel, which measures directly the phase voltage of 1 3-phase line (+neutral) or 4 1 phase lines and the frequency of the first line (L1). • A default value is automatically filled for the Slopes (for 280V full scale), but you can also type them manually or calibrate the input, so that they are calculated and filled automatically.

  12. 11. LOGGER SETUP (PART 2) CURRENT CHANNELS • CH1~CH10 measurethe phase current of up to 10 3-phase line (+neutral) or 40 1 phase lines, via voltage‐output (differential) current transformers. • Combined with the corresponding line’s voltage measurements (see previous chapter), apparent, active and reactive power and power factor are also measured for each line. • Active, reactive and apparent energy is also calculated for each line. • For a 3-phase line, not all 4 current transformers are needed. Besides measuring all 4 currents, you can select to measure the current of: • Only L1, L2, L3 (N current is computed). Use 3 CTs. • Only L1, L2, L3. Use 3 CTs. • Only L1, L2 (L3 current is computed). Use 2 CTs. • Also set the phase shift between voltage and current and the CT’s full scale current (up to 6000A). • A default value is automatically filled for the Slopes (for the full scale), but you can also type them manually or calibrate the input, so that they are calculated and filled automatically.

  13. 12. ONLINE PLOT • Via Opton, an online plot of the datalogger’s channels can be displayed. • The plot is updated every second. All samples appear, regardless of the recording interval. • The desired channels to be plotted can be selected. • 6 graphs will appear, one for each measurement type: Voltage, Frequency, Current, Power Factor, Active Power, Apparent Power. • The channel values at a specific selected second can be displayed numerically. • Appropriate units will appear on the plot.

  14. 13. ACQUISITION AND DOWNLOAD • After writing the desired setup in the datalogger, enable data acquisition. • A data file will be recorded, with one record every interval. • Data download can be achieved either manually or automatically via AutoConnect software (see next chapter). MANUAL DOWNLOAD There are 3 types of manual download: • Download the most recent file. If Acquisition is ON, this is the current file. In this case, the current file is firstly closed (the next file begins) and then downloaded. • Download a previous file, by typing its number. • Download more than one previous files. The files must be consecutive. To download them, type their range, eg files ‘1-4’. Files are stored in the datalogger in compressed form. When a file is downloaded, it is decompressed into a data file, which can be viewed via a text editor.

  15. 14. AUTOMATIC DOWNLOAD • Via the additional software AutoConnect, you can do the following actions: - ‘Download Status’ to get the logger’s status, ie information about its serialnumber, firmware version, remaining memory for data, battery voltage, etc.- ‘Download data’ to download data files.- ‘Download Current Values’ to get the channel values every interval.- ‘No action’ if you do not wish for automatic connections some weekdays. • You can set a different time for each weekday’s connection, along with a different action. • If a connection fails for any reason, there is a retry option: The retrial times and the interval, in minutes, between these retries, can be selected. • Besides making a connection once a day, AutoConnect can make infinite connections every as many minutes as you wish. • From AutoConnect’s interface, you can: • View a list of all your automatic connections and execute one or more manually. • Check each connection’s latest status, ie if it succeeded, or failed and why. • View the date and time of last connection and last successful download for each one. • Modify the properties of existing auto connections, like in Opton.

  16. 15. FILE MANAGEMENT • Compressed and decompressed data files are stored in windows folders, which operate as site folders (one for each datalogger). Other relevant site files are also stored in the folder. • All these file types can be viewed in Opton, either all together or files of one type only: • Stylitis Compressed files. Raw files as stored in the datalogger. • Stylitis Data files. Decompressed files (automatically) when downloaded. • Energy Data files. Along with each data file, the data of its energy data columns are added. • Manual or Automatic Connection files. Multiple connections can be created in one site. • Setup files. Setups can be saved to files and loaded. One log (text) file is also recorded for each connection. • In Opton’s interface, some statistics and features appear for each file, in columns, besides the file type. Files can also be sorted by one of these columns: • File name, time and date modified and size, features appearing in Windows Explorer. • Logger type (Stylitis-200 in our case) and site. • File numberand Interval. • Data Start Date and End Date.

  17. 16. OFFLINE DATA PRESENTATION (PART 1) Besides online plot, data can be presented and analyzed in statistics offline, ie for each downloaded file separately. The available tools are: • Plot • Plot the selected channel data to upto 3 graphs (groups of channels). • Move the cursor to view values at aspecific moment with the channel units. • Export to Excel/.CSV/.TAB file • Export a file’s data to an Excel,a comma delimited or a tab delimited file.

  18. 17. OFFLINE DATA PRESENTATION (PART 2) • Statistics Like in the plot, the channels are divided in groups (2 this time). • Statistics of the file’s data can appear per hour, per day, per month and per year. • The statistics can be the average values of the data (within the hour, day, month or year), the max, min, variance or standard deviation values, or sum of all values. • Only the voltage, current, apparent power, etc, values can be isolated and viewed. • In the first tab, the first group is presented via a bar graph and the second one via a dot plot. • In the second and third tab, the same statistics are represented in table form.

  19. 18. CONCLUSION Therefore, why should one select the Stylitis-Power datalogger? Its main advantages are: • Measure on multiple incoming and outgoing 3 phase or 1 phase lines. • The only sensors needed are current transformers. Some phase currents can be calculated, thus not all of them need a current transformer. • Recording RMS values at multiples of 0.5 sec, for advanced analysis, instead of getting instant values. • Variety of communication methods. • Free operating and automatic connection software. • Portability, thanks to its IP67 enclosure with carrying handle.
