  5. Location and Program • Location can dictate program strength and opportunity. e.g. In the GTA more opportunity for fashion programs than in North Bay • Location can also influence competitiveness of a program e.g. A paramedic program in London may have more applicants than one in Timmins

  6. Location – things to consider • Can you live in that city? • Transportation • Cost of living • Distance from home • Future employment prospects

  7. Tuition Fees • Tuition fees vary from college to college and from program to program. • Diploma programs $ 2,400 • Graduate Certificate programs $ 4,000 • Bachelor’s Degree programs $ 6,100 • Collaborative programs $ 5,000 • Other fees $ 800 • Books and supplies $ 1,000

  10. Program Types • Certificates • Diplomas • Bachelor’s Degree Programs • Collaborative/ Joint Degree Programs • Graduate Certificate Programs • Co-op Placements • Apprenticeships

WILLING AND QUALIFIED • Know the program requirements. • All diploma programs require a combination of courses • ENG 4C is required for almost all programs • Most programs will have recommended courses • Some courses may have minimum grades • Degree programs require University entrance requirements Are you willing to go where you are qualified ?

WILLING AND QUALIFIED Paramedic-2013/2014 A Two Year Ontario College Diploma Program Program Code: PAR2Campus Code: LC (LC - London)September AdmissionAcademic Calendars available at www.fanshawec.ca/academicdates Admission Requirements OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),University/College (U/C), or Open (O) stream WITH: - Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U) - Mathematics ONE OF:       - Grade 11 Mathematics (U) or (U/C)        - Grade 12 Mathematics (C) or (U)- Grade 11 or Grade 12 Biology (C) or (U) or physics- Grade 11 or Grade 12 Chemistry (C) or (U) (Note: minimum final grade required for each course is 65)

Highly Competitive Programs • the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of seats available • These programs are competitive and often do not admit many students from high school • Feb 1 is the equal consideration deadline Apply for the preparatory courses that correspond with these programs. E.g. paramedic – apply to Pre-Health, dental hygiene- apply to pre health (at the school that you wish to continue)

  14. Grade Differential Few Colleges will evaluate 4U and 4C courses differently. Fanshawe Conestoga ENG 4C 75% ENG 4C 75% ENG 4U 75 % ENG 4U 75% BOTH THE SAME ENG 4U converts to equivalent of 85%

Mark Your Calendar • October 24, 2012 • Application Session 9am auditorium, access to on line application is open • Nov 26, 2012 • Earliest date Colleges may acknowledge applications • February 1, 2013: • -Equal consideration date • -application due date • -also earliest release of offer date • May 1, 2013 • Applicants must confirm their acceptance • June 17, 2013 • earliest date that colleges may require payment

  16. OCAS and applying ONLINE The Ontario College Application Service processes all Ontario College applications. Applications are completed on-line for a fee of $95 Pay online by credit card, over the phone, or through the mail.

  17. Remember • Once you create your account you must verify through your email to activate your account • Your application will not be processed without fees • Use all 5 choices (no more than 3 at one school) • You are responsible for ensuring that you have the pre requisites needed • Make a guidance appointment if you need assistance with your application or research
