Session objectives: • The session is designed to optimize students performance in IRMA entrance exam through GK section. • To make understand the value of GK section and help them to increase score by: • Analysis of the previous year questions. • Understanding the areas of importance. • Practicing new questions based on previous year questions. • To add value to the students General Knowledge.

  3. GK & MBA • GK section is like an ocean without any boundary. • It can been divided in many sections with overlaps. • But every exam has few characteristic sections, which defines most of the questions of that particular examination. • One must be judicious in selecting the key focus areas of any entrance examination.

GK & MBA • Importance of GK: • In 1st level of entrance examination it finds weight ages between 10% - 25%. • A good knowledge of current events also boots once chance in the GD/PI rounds. • Unlike other traditional sections of an exam, this section holds importance throughout the entrance process. • Where QA/Reasoning tests intelligence of the candidate this section touches practical awareness. • To be a good manager this practical awareness helps a lot.

  5. GK & MBA “One mark in Quantitative Ability is equal to one mark in English is equal to one mark in GK.” • Most of the candidates prepare intensively for QA and English but give less time to GK. • Average time taken to solve each GK question is the least. • It takes approximately 30 seconds for each GK question. • So, less effort is needed to score better in GK. • As cut offs are generally low in GK, it helps in improving overall marks.

IRMA & GK • IRMA which stands for the Institute of Rural Management, Anand aims at contributing to the professional management of rural organizations. • Coming to particular areas of IRMA, the key focus areas are in sync with the specialization of the institute. • Unlike other MBA focuses this course make one specialised in working with co-operatives, NGOs, governments, Indian national and international agencies.

IRMA & GK • Key areas of GK questions: • Rural management. • Social programmes. • Schemes for education, healthcare, employment, poverty alleviation etc. • Social movements in India. • Activities in rural areas. • Social problems. • International issues related to agriculture and other rural sectors. • Rural industries. • Other areas which are primarily concerned with the rural areas.

GK trend in IRMA: • Apart from the areas that are important in this exam, there are many visible trends in the GK section of this exam. • Eventually target is to cross 35 score in GK section out of 60 questions. • To achieve this, firstly one must be aware of the questions appearing from various areas of the examination. • This can help in sorting out the areas of strength and areas of weakness which would be an important factor in preparation strategy.

GK trend in IRMA: • Few questions are fact based which can be answered by the most. • Along with the questions that are fact based, there are many questions which can be solved by using basic sense. • Some examples: • How relevant is the statement that ‘Labour moves in search of higher rewards’? • What is the meaning of economies of scale? • According to IMF, which of the following countries will achieve maximum GDP growth rate for the year 2010-2011? – So read the questions carefully in this section.

  11. Lets Practice: We will see a total of 80 questions with analysis of 50 questions. This includes are sitters, factual or a where a bit of reasoning can be used. We have a third of questions (~17) from previous year papers and two-third (~33) fresh questions. At the end we have 30 questions from IRMA 2010 and 2011 which can be noted down or checked online for further reference.
