  1. FOLK COSTUMES IN ARGEŞ COUNTY

  2. In Romania there is a large variety of folk or ethnic dresses. From region to region, the costume details are different that one can identify the area of Romania in which a person lives just by their clothes style.

  3. You know a country starting from its people and their things , together with their language , customs and traditions . The folk costume represents a mark of ethnic identity , a document with both historical and artisticvalue .

  4. The similarity of the folk costume that people wear today with the one that our ancestors used to wear a long time ago proves a millenar persistency of some items of clothing , which in a developed way can be seen nowadays .

  5. Women’s folk costumes in Argeş • Main features : • 1. Two aprons version “valnic“ wide in the back , “zavelca“ narrow in the front .

  6. 2. One apron version : the wide , pleated “valnic“all around .

  7. 3. Moldavia influence ( wrap – around apron ) in the north part , Muscel and Bran ; however , the fabric, style of embroidery and head cover are specific to Muntenia .

  8. Men’s folk costumes Men’s costumes is much easier , it doesn’t have much flourish . It is made of the hat , the shirt , the trousers , the belt and the vest . The hat was round and necessary . The shirt was longer with embroideries at the binding of the sleeves. The predominant colours were red and black .

  9. The trousers , known as “poturi” were loose and made of cloth. The belt had different colours , each symbolizing something : white (was worn at work), red (was worn by young people), blue and green ( worn by married men and old ones). The vest was worn over the shirt .

  10. This costumes are not worn nowadays , they are being worn at special occasions , both by old people and young ones . They represent the value of our region , making us proud of what our ancestors have left to us .
