  2. Parallel Processing (TCPP) • The TCPP acts as an international forum to promote parallel processing research and education, and participates in setting up technical standards in this area. Issues related to the design, analysis and implementation of parallel systems and solutions are of interest. • TCPP sponsors professional meetings, brings out publications, sets guidelines for educational programs and coordinates academia, funding agency, and industry activities in the above areas. • tcpp.computer.org Technical Committee on Parallel Processing (TCPP)

IPDPS PhD Forum Objective: To help students • receive feedback on their research thrusts (those in various stages), • establish contacts for entering the job market (for graduating students) • give representatives from industry and academia a preview of the upcoming developments in broad parallel and distributed processing and related technologies. • Broad Scope for larger TCPP Community • Various Stages of PhD • 2009 Resolution: With second successful year, TCPP PhD forum to be institutionalized as a regular IPDPS event from 2010 onwards with continuing sponsorship of TCPP while ensuring that (i) its current TCPP-wide broad scope and its catering to students at various stages of their PhD program are retained, and (ii) the PhD Forum’s organizers (Program Chair, General Chair, and Proceedings Chair) are appointed in consultation with TCPP chair.

  10. 2010/2011 IPDPS PhD Forum - Organized akin to a Workshop - Program Chair: Luc Bouge 2010, 2011 - General Chair: Manish Parashar, 2010 - 4 page manuscripts reviewed by at least 3 PC members • Proceedings with 4 page summary • 45 submissions (44 in 2009, 76 in 2008), • Luc: “The submissions come from US for 54%, then Europe for 31% (1/3 thereof from Spain), then Asia for 11%” • 21 posters (2009: 24 posters; 2008: 36 posters) • 3 Best poster awards • 10 TCPP Student Travel Awards for PhD Forum and IPDPS student authors

  11. 2010 Student Travel Awards • $30K for IPDPS, $15K for other TCPP conferences – $30K NSF for roughly split between PhD forum and IPDPS conference and workshops • Average $1K to 30 US-based students • none to non-US-based students • Thanks to Manish Parashar (Awards Comm Chair), Rajeev Thakur, Rama Govindraju, Alan Sussman • Thanks to Almadena(TCPP NSF co-Liaison with Timothy Pinkston) • Seed PhD forums at other TCPP conferences as well

TCPP Membership Database • 2009 Resolution: TCPP Chair to create one membership database after incorporating current data from both “tcpp-announce” and “teca” lists which can be kept up-to-date as a TCPP community resource. • TCPP Server purchased • New web site and mail server ready • 1 Undergraduate and 2 graduate students working • Need: • Tcpp-announce membership list (David Bader) • Emails only – students will append name and affiliation • Teca membership list (IEEE-CS)
