4 Behaviors Associated with Creativity • Fluency: ability to generate new ideas • Flexibility: generating a broad range of ideas • Originality: unusual or unique responses to a situation • Elaboration: other ideas and details are added to the reasoning
Round Robin • One student starts the story and others add on. The excited AES student was getting ready for college. Judy Kevin Kim Carlos Clara
Show Not Tell • Have one sentence on the board when the students arrive. They are to sit down and write a paragraph showing the sentence. The teacher was weird. She had dyed her hair a florescent orange. Mary Tami Judy John
Trivial Pursuit • After studying a unit, have students divide into groups to come up with trivial pursuit questions. They will play the game from their own questions. Is creativity the result of innate abilities or of a learned set of behaviors? Learned! Studies in cognitive neuroscience seem to be indicating that creativity is more likely the result of a series of cognitive processes that can be developed in most individuals.
