  3. (Box 1) After the opening arguments • Which side do you agree with after hearing the opening arguments? I agree with Ben Brewer. or I agree with Hamilton Middle School.

  5. (Box 3) first set of justices • For speech to be protected under the First Amendment, the speech must: actually contain words be expressed out loud be something you wear have a message

(Box 4) second set of justices • Why did the justices argue about whether political speech gets more protection than cultural speech? 1st Amend. only protects political speech, not cultural speech. 1st Amend. protects cultural speech more than political speech. They agreed it was cultural speech, but wanted to see how much protection it should get. They disagreed on if the shirt was political or cultural speech.

  8. (Box 6) fourth set of justices • What did the Supreme Court say in the Tinker case? A school can take away freedom of speech for any reason. If there is a good reason to believe that a type of speech in school is disruptive, the school can ban that speech. Schools can’t limit speech because it is protected by 1st amend. Students do not have freedom of speech in school.
