  1. BMW S 1000 RR Review: autoX I still remember the day when the original BMW S 1000 RR broke cover. The world was going through a struggle –it was 2009 and there was extreme economic slowdown everywhere. The 00’s era of superbikes was reigned supreme by the likes of the Yamaha R1s, Kawasaki Ninjas and Honda Fireblades of the world. When the original BMW came out, it began an era where superbikes were comparatively easy to live with, and incredibly fast if need be. But that was a decade ago, and since then competition caught up with the double R. Thus, BMW has an all-new S 1000 RR for India. We are at the BIC, and here’s a quick brief of our BMW S 1000 RR review. As far as design is concerned, BMW claims they have not used a single bolt from the old bike in the third-generation model and it’s built from scratch. The design is actually quite fascinating. Although I do miss the asymmetric look of the older BMW, which had an aggressive bite-your-head-off kind of vibe. The new S 1000 RR gets a pair of sleek LED lamps at the front. While they might not be as aggressive as the projector setup of the older one, it will certainly garner a wider audience. Apart from the standard trim, the double R also comes with the company’s M moniker which certainly means that it now gets a new paint scheme with racing red, blue and white colours. In addition, you also get lightweight carbon wheels for weight reduction. Speaking of weight, the new BMW weighs in at 197kg – 11kg lighter than its predecessor, while the M-spec trim weighs 193.5kg.

  2. But it’s the engine of the new S 1000 RR from that BMW have shaved kilos and grams from anywhere it could. The engine itself is a full 4kg lighter. The newly-developed 999cc in-line four- cylinder motor is capable of producing 204bhp – 8bhp more than the engine it replaces – and an identical 113Nm of torque. The peak torque is now produced at 500rpm higher 11,000rpm. Right from the get-go, this engine feels like it will send you flying to the outer space. The motor is throttle happy and the engine is simply fantastic. The handling is very-well balanced and you always have a sense of control thanks to the sublime electronics. But I didn’t like the braking performance, as it appeared to fade out after some laps. To sum it up, even if I had some issues with the BMW, I would pick one up in a heartbeat.
