BYU SAMPE Chapter

BYU SAMPE Chapter • Enrollment figures: • 2nd place ESRA rocket competition 2010 • Won a SAMPE leadership every year since 2008 • 1st 2nd and 3rd at 2012 Utah SAMPE Bridge competition • 2nd and 3rd at 2012 SAMPE bridge competition Strong push at college club rush for new members Note: Figure depend upon SAMPE’s timing for collecting annual figures relative to BYU recruitment drive

BYU Student Chapter Best Practice • Strong input from 2 departments (Advisor is from ME Dept, many students from Manufacturing; Manufacturing facilities run by manufacturing; funding from both departments, and college) • Funding from SAMPE easy to obtain ($1k per year) • Focus on ~2 design and build projects each year (ESRA rocket competition and SAMPE bridge) • Needs active student leader • Leader recommended for SAMPE leadership award each year (for free trip to annual meeting) • BYU Students enter SAMPE student symposium each year • Free Utah dinner meetings for student members, and ½ price membership sponsored by Utah Chapter • Students present at each monthly Utah SAMPE meeting (10 mins before main presentation) • Students not forced to join SAMPE to participate, but strongly encouraged; almost all join • Local SAMPE members generously donate material to BYU group • Benefits of student membership regularly emphasized at Utah meetings (including free 1yr professional membership)
