Background of Project • Ride-On has provided transportation to social services by a voucher system for six years. • We have a history of providing public vanpools for the past seven years. • Participation in employee training programs through the Private Industry Council and Department of Social Services. • Interest in applying for funding fro the Agricultural Worker Transportation Program (AWTP)

  5. Ride-on Employment Shuttle • Train driver candidates for 3-6 months using training funds • Drivers will work for Ride-on with a priority for servicing low income employees who cannot use public transit. • Ride-On will schedule rides based on referrals from human resource agencies. • Trainees will be hired as full time drivers after training period.

  6. Who will use the Employee Shuttle? • Field workers • Hotel / Restaurant workers • CalWorks trainees • Low wage employees who do not have a car • Employees with developmental disabilities

  7. How Rides Are Scheduled • Agency will fax or call in transportation request • Schedulers will schedule rides to maximize Employee Shuttle • Drivers will get daily manifest of riders • Fares will be paid by the individual or agency

  8. Benefits of Employee Shuttle • Funding for shuttle will be provided by social agency and transportation funds • Vehicles are not used to transport one group of workers, but many groups each day • Drivers can be used by Ride-On between shuttle trips • Drivers are hired by Ride-On at $10 / hour after completing their training

  9. Funding the Employee Shuttle • Vehicles will be older vanpool vans to minimize capital expense • Department of Social Services and Private Industry Council have training funds • Agricultural Worker Transportation program will not fund this service • Other transportation funds will be needed to complete funding of the shuttle
