  6. Example 2: Rugby: The Scrum-Half Pass The scrum-half is the player on the field who most often moves the ball from the ground into another offensive player’s hands Purpose: Move the ball from the ground into offensive teammate’s hands Success Criteria: Speed & Accuracy

Backswing Purpose of the skill - move the ball from the ground to the offensive player’s hands Joints: • Ankle– ankles are flexed, the back (weight bearing foot) is in dorsi-flexion, the non-weight bearing foot is flexed at 90 degrees and pointed towards the passing target • knee– both knees are bent, the weight bearing leg is flexed to a greater angle • hip– the abdomen is flexed, the athlete is leaning forward, hips facing forward (squared up toward the scrum) • shoulder– shoulders are in line with the hips (squared towards the scrum, not the target), • elbow- elbows are slightly bent, as the ball is being held just anterior to the body, arms are both pulled back towards the leg supporting most of the body weight • hands– fingers are spread and comfortably wrapped around the sides of the rugby ball, wrists are flexed • head– head is turned to the side, looking at the passing target • Base of support – the base of support is very wide (approx. A meter) and it is lateral • Other- ?
