Coast Guard Reserve • USCGR founded in 1941 • Organized Reserve units established in 1950 • Reserve augmentation begins in 1972 • Active-Reserve integration begins in 1994 • Mobilizations • 1,250 for Operations Desert Shield/Storm • 22,000 cumulatively since 2001 for Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) and other Maritime Homeland Security activities • 3,300 for Deepwater Horizon
An Integrated Reserve Force 20% serve at USCG Port Security Units, Mobile Support Unit, Navy Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadrons, Combatant Commander staffs 80% are assigned to typical USCG Active Component units

Today the Coast Guard will: • Save 10 lives • Assist 192 people in distress • Protect $2.5 billion in property • Interdict 7 illegal migrants at sea • Respond to 56 search and rescue incidents • Seize 562 pounds of illegal narcotics • Perform 4,658 hours of on-water recreational boating safety operations • Conduct 160 maritime safety or security boardings.
