Defender Series Competition – Highlights

The Defender Series stands out in the secure storage market, offering superior password complexity and hardware-verified biometrics proven for four years. With a full range of secure portable storage products, from 1GB to 500GB, it supports multiple user accounts for secure sharing. Features like NIST SP800-56A certified communications, waterproof and dustproof designs to IP57 standards, and serverless management provide notable advantages over competitors like Kingston, Spyrus, and Verbatim. 1. Defender Series Competition – Highlights

  2. Competition • Major competitors • Kingston • Spyrus • Smaller/weaker competitors(not addressed here) • Verbatim • SafeStick (Blockmaster) • Kanguru

  3. Common Defender Advantages • Advantages versus all current competitors: • Superior password complexity/usage rules, enforced in hardware • Hardware-verified biometrics, field-proven for 4yrs • Complete line of secure portable storage and secure computing products, 1GB to 500GB capacity • Multiple user capability (10 accounts for secure sharing, advanced future features) • Industry-first NIST SP800-56A certified host-to-device secure communications • Sticks waterproof and dustproof to IEC 60529 IP57 • Serverless management is possible (advantage with some customers)

  4. Kingston – Device Overview • DataTraveler Privacy Edition • AES-256 • Unmanaged • DataTraveler 5000 is very similar to DTPE, but: • FIPS 140-2 Level 2 • Suite B cryptography • AES-256 XTS mode • Slower • DataTraveler is identical to DTPE, but: • User can allocate a second, unprotected, partition (most customers dislike this)

  5. Kingston – Kingston Advantages • XTS versus CBC mode, though the added security here is debatable (DT5000 only) • Suite B cryptography, mainly of interest to US Gov, but not a critical requirement yet (DT5000 only)

  6. Kingston – Defender Advantages • Common Defender Advantages (slide 3), plus: • Management software available • FIPS 140-2 Level 3 • Kingston password rules very restrictive • Malware-proof read-only mode • Advanced PKI functions allow future identity applications (VPN, document signing) • Waterproof to MIL-STD-180F
