In Week 3, we focused on reading relevant papers and began the data collection process. We established a clear definition of a selfie, informed by Oxford's definition as well as our interpretation: a facial portrait taken by oneself or a group including oneself. We created an initial list of attributes for selfies, including race, gender, hair type, facial attributes, and age categories. Additionally, we familiarized ourselves with face detection code to prepare for future work, including building a GUI and annotating our dataset, which will continue in Week 4.
