Welcome to The Early College at CG…

  3. Students who want to : Learn in a classroom with a college-feeling environment and get a head-start on college. Learn in a more personalized way where teachers know you well Learn with a 1:1 laptop computer available 24/7 Earn college credit while in high school with a possibility of earning up to an Associate’s Degree Learn through a mixture of traditional and project based learning approaches Be supported through mentoring from your teacher and through study tables Experience digital learning through blogging and distance learning

Partners and possible college offerings • Indiana University: -- Advanced College Placement Program (ACP) W131, Lit 202, Math 211, Geology 103 • Vincennes University: -- Eng 101, Eng 102, POLS111,ECON 100; AM140, ERTH 100, PHYS 100, PHIL111, MATH 102 (?), HUMAN200, PFWL100, SPAN 100, SPAN 200 and others to be announced.

  9. 16 Habits of Mind • Persisting: Stick to it! • Persevering in task through to completion; remaining focused. • Managing Impulsivity: Take your time! • Thinking before acting; remaining calm, thoughtful and deliberative.

Listening with understanding and empathy: • Understand Others! • Devoting mental energy to another person's thoughts and ideas; • holding in abeyance one's own thoughts in order to perceive another's point of view and emotions. • Thinking Flexibly: • Look at it another way! • Being able to change perspectives, generate alternatives, consider options. • Thinking about your Thinking: (metacognition) • Know your knowing! • Being aware of one's own thoughts, strategies, feelings and actions and their effects on others. • ETC.

  11. What is College Ready, Anyway? • Beyond End of Course Assessments, multiple choice tests, five-paragraph essays, and poster board projects, what do college freshmen need to be able to do? Using metacognition, ask yourself these questions: • Are you a leader? • Are you able to lead a group discussion? • Are you able and willing to set goals and reflect on your progress? • Are you able to use inquiry to find answers? • Are you able to think in abstract ways? • Do you have the right attitude to succeed? (Or do you expect everything to be given to you?) • Are you willing to take 4 years of all 5 core subjects: math, science, English, Social Sciences, and World Language? • Do you see connections among all of your classes? • Do you understand inductive and deductive reasoning? • Do you know how to test the validity of our argument? • Can you transfer knowledge from the time you learn it to using it again? • Do you know how to find the thesis of any written work? • Do you understand the importance of metacognition? • Do you keep fighting even if you fail? • Do you know how to seek help even when you fail?

Do you understand the different types of argument: ethos, pathos, logos? • Do you think analytically? • Do you study? • Do you know how to study? • Can you articulate your thoughts intelligently? • Can you problem-solve (or do you expect people to give you the answers)? • Are you self-aware? • Do you have self-direction? • Can you “do” math without a calculator? • Can you manage your time wisely? • Can you make a plan? • Are you able to see how your choices affect others? • Do you understand your role in your community?

  14. How do I apply to The EC@CG? • Pick up an application from the Guidance Office after January 5th • Complete the application and turn it into the Guidance Office by February 1st. OR • Go online and complete the application. • Questions, see Mrs. Hillman in the Main Office or Mrs. Hensley, Rm 164, EC Lead Teacher.
