Design • Rigorous and Relevant Honors Curriculum • Personalized Learning Environment • Technology, 1:1 schools • High School Diploma • Earn College Credit that will transfer to UNC system schools • Commitment to Community Service • WECHS-connected with Cape Fear Community College • 4 or 5 years (Associates Degree) • Take College Classes during 10-12 grade • Isaac Bear-connected with UNCW • 4 years (Avg. 40 hours of College Credit) • Take College Classes during the 11th and 12 grade years.

Designed to Serve • Students that want a non-traditional high school experience. • First in family to go to college. • Students statistically underrepresented in higher education - low income, first generation college completing, or racial/ethnic minority group. • Students with High Academic Potential, but need a more personalized system of support. • NC GS 115C-238.50.

  8. UNCW Course Enrollment • Predominantly Basic Studies curriculum • 100, 200, and 300 level courses available • Between 3 to 5 courses (approximately 10-15 credit hours) per student, per semester

CFCC Enrollment 2013 Graduating Class 97% Graduation rate 67% - earned an associates degree or college transfer diploma 88% - accepted to an institution of higher learning 44% - minority students graduated President’s List – 2 Dean’s List – 10 Phi Theta Kappa – 3 • Start as early as second semester of the sophomore year • Expected to achieve an associate degree – 64+ Semester Hours Credit; transfers as a packet to state schools • Approximately 10- 12 hours per semester • 100 – 200 level courses • Tuition free, we pay for books and fees • Summer Classes are paid for by the parents

Application Process • 1.Students Contact School Counselor.   Application Checklist-The counselor will begin collecting items for the Application Checklist. • 2.Complete the Online Application by November 14, 2014; http://www.nhcs.net/EarlyCollegeApp/EarlyCollegeApp.htm.The application includes a 250-300 word essay. • 3. Counselor submits Application Checklists Data November 24, 2014. • 4. Teacher Recommendations-Communicate with your four core 8th grade teachers (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) about completing a Teacher Recommendation Form.  The School Counselor will send them an online form to complete the Teacher Recommendation. These are also due by November 24th. • 4.Interviews-students will be offered the opportunity to interview based on selections from the application process. • 5.Students will be notified of interviews and continuing in the Early College Application process during the first week of January. • 6. Student will be notified of acceptance the second week of February. Online Application

Submitted by counselor • Grades (last year’s report card and this year’s grades to date). • Attendance profile from 7th grade and 8th grade. • Discipline profile from middle school. • End-of-Grade Tests (7th grade reading and math). If the student was not a NHCS student, please submit standardized achievement test scores for two years. • Recommendation from a Counselor. • IEP/504 identification • ESL status • STAE program • Teacher Recommendations from 8th grade teachers; http://goo.gl/bnjPnQ.
