Trees can: Reduce surface water run off, soil erosion and flow into streams Act as a “green leaky dam”, slowing water speeds and thereby reducing peak flows and helping mitigate against flooding. Reduce manure and fertiliser run off thereby improving water quality . This can be particularly important in Nitrogen Vulnerable Zones (NVZ).
