Integrating STEM and Computational Thinking through the GK-12 Program

The GK-12 program, funded by the National Science Foundation, aims to place STEM fellows in classrooms to assist teachers with integrating computer science concepts into traditional lectures. This initiative emphasizes computational thinking, a vital problem-solving skill that resembles computer science principles without reliance on computers. Graduate school offers further educational opportunities, often leading to higher salaries, and is ideal for those passionate about science. My high school experiences, such as the Science Olympiad, demonstrate the joy and creativity in scientific exploration.

  2. About GK-12 • GK-12 is a program funded by the National Science Foundation • Our goal is to have fellows in STEM classrooms, where they will help teachers integrate concepts of computer science into traditional lecture.

  3. What is Computational Thinking? • Problem solving • Something you do already • I think of computational thinking as computer science without the computers!

  4. What is Grad School? • More school after you graduate college • Designed for people who want more debt

  5. Why I Chose Grad School • it's challenging • The average salary for graduate degrees • because science is pure awesomeness, in a soda can, after you add Mentos

  6. Experiences In High School I went to the Science Olympiad Competition, where I built a balsa wood plane and used a rubber band to make it fly around a gymnasium.  And then we tried to knock it down with a catapult!
