Background Demand for greener economies History of FFNC Department under agriculture since 1970 Faculty since October 1999, thanks to NORAD Departments FBEM(Forest biology and Ecosystems Management) FOM (Forest management) CFE ( Community Forestry and Extension) FPE (Forest products Engineering) • Training in Forestry stands at a crucial point globally • given the current demands for • a cleaner environment, • wood resources, and • vegetation cover. • Given this, forestry and its uniqueness has a potential to attract donor funding

  7. RECESS TERM ACTIVITIES • Recess Term is a full fledged Semester • For all academic years and academic programmes • All courses well coded • At least 3 courses • Total of 15 credit units • 10 weeks of practicals

  8. RECESS TERM ACTIVITIES • Mode of Delivery • Student groups(4-6 wks) • (5-10) guided by atleast 1 academic staff and 1 technical staff • Field Attachment (4 wks) • Each student attached to a partner organisation • Supervised by a field supervisor • 1-3 visits by one academic staff

Strengths & Opportunities Strengths Opportunities Improved student’s facility at Sonso Water harvesting system Solar lighting system Improved sanitation Improved facilitation for non-permanent sites Camping tents Generator Renovation of the students’ dormitory at NFC Could be used by other training institutions-generate funds for maintenance • Students gain appropriate practical skills • Field conditions prepare the students for the real world in the forestry profession
