  2. Drafting • Use graphic organizer to form ideas into sentences. • “Draft,” “Rough Draft,” or “Sloppy Copy” on scrap paper to illustrate impermanence. • Skip every other line to leave space for making revisions.

  3. Drafting • Focus on getting down the content of writing. • Do not worry about spelling & neatness. • Provide support & feedback.

  4. Drafting Teacher Model/Class Collaboration: • Use prewriting graphic organizer. • Show how to convert ideas into sentences. • Do not emphasize spelling & neatness in your draft. • Label your writing as, “Draft.” • Include errors for revising and editing.

  5. Draft • Students draft: • Students develop drafts from prewriting graphic organizers. • Remind them to skip lines.

  6. Draft • Conference with students: • “Tell me what you are writing about. That is interesting. Have you included that? Where could you add it to your writing?” • Show students how to add this to their drafts without rewriting (which is completed in the revision stage).
