  1. Academic Review Procedure The main purpose is to help you! It also informs the ARCP

  2. ACF’s • The academic review occurs at least 1 monthbefore the ARCP • Panel consists of myself and 2 other academics from different departments • The research supervisor will be invited to attend

  3. ACF’s • 5 minute power point presentation followed by 25 min discussion Questions • Are you getting adequate supervision? • Are you getting adequate time for research? • How is your research going? • How is the MRes going? • How is the PhD funding process going?

  4. What happens if • I fail the academic review? • Return to the NHS • I fail the ARCP? • As dictated by clinical training needs

  5. ACL’s • Induction Review within 6 months of starting in post Questions • Supervisors • Anticipated CCT date • Support/assistance required • Funding plans

ACL’s • Thereafter formal yearly academic review • Panel consists of myself and 2 other clinical academics from 2 different College Departments • Academic supervisors will provide a report including research supervisors report • ACL will provide a summary of the previous 12 months academic activity and the plan for the next 12 months

MRes in Clinical Science • NIHR have requested that Universities developformal research teaching for ACF’s • It is an excellent idea because it formalises the delivery of teaching in research methods and it gives those who fail to obtain PhD funding recognition/reward for their research efforts/training

  8. MRes • Total of 180 credits • 20 credits from Module1 (Foundations of Applied Health Research). Semester 1 • 20 credits from either Module 2 (Quantitative Methods in Applied Health Research) or Module 3 (Qualitative Methods in Applied Health Research) • 140 credits from Dissertation

  9. Modules • Module 1. October – November. • Module 2. November – January • Need 11 days study leave or research days

  10. Dissertation • Completed grant application 45% • Research Review (12000-15000 words) 40% • Reflective Commentary (1000-2000 words) 15% • All three components will be examined by viva voce
