  3. 3 IHTSDO: International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation • International not-for-profit association • Based in Denmark • Owned by National Members • Governed by General Assembly of its Members • Funded by countries based on national wealth • Delivers SNOMED Clinical Terms • Licensed to registered Affiliates • Free use in Member countries • Low-cost licenses for institutions in other countries • Free in poorest countries • Free for “Public Good” applications

  7. 7 IHTSDO working with other sdo’s & initiatives • HL7 • Terminfo – guidance for binding of SNOMED CT to HL7 messages • Use of IHTSDO workbench to maintain HL7 vocabulary • Alignment of HL7 vocabulary with SNOMED CT, leading to • Development of a Terminology Authority in HL7 to triage and coordinate all requests for changes to SNOMED CT • European projects • epSOS – SNOMED CT phase 2 use granted this week, including a brief to work on new models • SemanticHealthNet – working to ensure semantic interoperability between EHR systems • Commodity12 • COST IC0604 • ADA SNODENT • Agreement to be signed May 2012, full integration, dental SIG • CIMI Intermountain HL7, SNOMED CT, LOINC

  8. 8 New delivery mechanism, packaging • Necessary for EpSoS, CIMI, Semantic Health Net • Develop new licensing and maintenance models based on new use case and distribution scenarios • Public Good • European Semantic Operability seems to need an European Approach • Member driven decision making so needs GA approval
