  1. LOGICAL CONCLUSIONS OF LIMITED INERRANCY

  2. Orthodox: Theological views that are affirmed by the Bible, and have been held to by the New Testament Church as well as many early Church Fathers. • The Bible alone is the Holy Spirit-inspired Word of God and is the source of all revelation, doctrine, and authority. • Grace alone is the basis for salvation. • Faith is the only means through which one can attain the free gift of eternal life. • Christ is the only Savior and the only mediator between God and man.

  3. Scripture: refers to all writings within the Bible, Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. • Inspiration: The act whereby the Holy Spirit moved in the hearts of men to write the Holy Scriptures. • Inerrancy: The extent of inspiration. Since God breathed the words of the Scriptures we know that these words are without error in whatever they affirm. • Authority: The extent of inspiration and inerrancy. Since the Word of God is both inspired and inerrant it therefore has full authority in everything it affirms.

  4. Sola Scriptura: • Scripture alone is the sole infallible rule of faith for the church • Let the Bible interpret the Bible • God said it, I believe it and that settles it for me

  5. What is Sola Scriptura Replaced With: • Experience • Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” • Reason • 1 Corinthians 3:19, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God For it is written, ‘He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness’” • Tradition • Mark 7:13, “Thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that.”

  6. BIBLE PASSAGE INTERPRETATION Is the Interpretation VALIDATED by other SCRIPTURE NO YES TRUTH

  7. BIBLE PASSAGE INTERPRETATION Is the Interpretation Validated by Reason, Experience, or Tradition NO YES TRUTH

  8. Examples • Story of Job as a parable • Story of Jonah as a parable • Exodus of Israelites not really 600,000 • Numbers 26:23-25 • Tribe of Issachar: 64,300 • 64 Families with 300 people (4.68/fam) • Numbers 26:35-37 • Tribe of Ephraim: 32,500 • 32 Families with 500 people (15.625/fam) • Numbers 26:61 • Tribe of Levi: 23,000 • 23 Families with 0 people (?)

  9. Examples • Genealogical Account of Genesis 5 • Methuselah • 969 Years old when he died • 80.75 Years old when he died • Enoch • 65 Years old when fathered Methuselah • 5.42 Years old when fathered Methuselah

  10. The End Results • Theistic Evolution • Open Theism • Big-Tent Approach

  11. Limited Inerrancy is Theologically Dangerous because it allows for Divergent, Non-Orthodox, and Heretical views to enter the Church and be accepted as TRUTH
