Web. 9 March  2003.  • Newspaper Article • Author name (last name first). “Title of article.” Title of newspaper (italicized). When published. How published.   3. In-text Citations • Use an introductory phrase with author name or website/article title • As James Loewen states in his book Sundown Towns, blah, blah, blah… • In the article “Racism in New York,”… • According to the webpage “1 in 3 African Americans are Arrested,”…

  4. In-text Citations • If can not use some type of introductory phrase, put the author’s last name and page number in parentheses afterwards. • Blah, blah, blah (Loewen 3). • If no author, use the webpage/article title • Blah, blah, blah (“1 in 3”). • No matter what, your in-text citation must match the first part of your entry on the MLA Works Cited Page.

  5. Example of Matching • According to James Loewen, sundown towns were notorious for shoving African Americans out…(4). • Could not just use Sundown Towns… • MLA Works Cited • Loewen, James. Sundown Towns. New York: New Haven, 2014. (this is not the correct citation) • Note that 2nd, 3rd, etc. lines are indented; alphabetize your works cited.
